The new DIN EN ISO /ASTM 52907 from 2020 (Additive manufacturing- Feedstock materials-Methods to characterize metal powders) lists the following technical parameters to characterize the quality of metal powder: I Particle size distribution I Chemical composition I Characteristic densities I Morphology I Flowability I Contamination I (Packing, handling, storage) This article focusses on the chemical analysis of metal powders, especially the measurement of the elements oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen as well as carbon and sulfur, and describes the current status of elemental analysis.
